Whether something strikes in you the fear of God or sparks an erotic fantasy, or both, you can bet that someone else has already felt the same emotion, even if they had no way of articulating it. We are individuals, and as such we are not automatically connected to one another by emotions. But because we tend to find comfort in being connected, we use art to bridge these connections. By replicating emotions, art makes the private universal.
