Backseat

by Atlas Genius
album Through The Glass EP

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Backseat by Atlas Genius. Heard it on Alt Nation/SiriusXM during work this week and it’s been on heavy rotation across all my devices ever since. Can’t wait till the EP comes out on June 12th, which I will definitely be picking up. I’ve been a fan ever since they released Trojans and I’m looking forward to hearing more of their sound. Great way to start off Memorial Day weekend here in the US. Be sure to check them out if you like it.

Nuclear Seasons - Charli XCX

Nuclear Seasons

album Nuclear Seasons

Nuclear Seasons by Charli XCX. I first heard this song as I was driving to the post office to pickup my morning mail. It just came on the radio and there I was in that moment feeling like it was exactly what I needed, almost as if I had been searching for something like this feeling for months and I didn’t even know it. I love the atmospheric quality of track and it’s lulling synths rising and falling as you progress your way through. We survive and I can indeed feel it inside of the soul oh ah oh oh ah oh.

Machinery - The Naked and Famous

Machinery

by The Naked and Famous
album Passive Me Aggressive You

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Machinery by The Naked and Famous. For some reason when I hear this song it feels like it should be in a movie. Overlaid to the part where the hot guy/girl is walking in slow motion and the camera is panning seductively over them in its quest to capture their siren-like movement down the hall. This is what I would imagine that feeling would sound like as the main character is overwhelmed collectively by the racing of their own heart beating within their chest as the connection is made between the two of them.

Strictly Game by Harlem Shakes. Currently my I’m running ten minutes late and I just got in the car kick off starter for my morning melodic transit to work. Good stuff, definitely drum your fingers on the steering wheel material.

Bigger Than Us - White Lies

Bigger Than Us

Bigger Than Us by White Lies. I just recently downloaded their new album Ritual on Amazon MP3 the other day and I’m really digging it so far. I started liking them back when I first heard To Lose My Life. Pretty much every song on that album is gold, but there is something about From The Stars that always draws me in and I keep it in steady rotation on a lot of my iPod playlists. For me, White Lies embodies the best of atmospheric 80’s ballads while giving them a modern edge saturated with emotional swells.

In This Shirt by The Irrepressibles, Wow, I just discovered this online through a tweet by @shep689  referencing this video (NSFW) on YouTube and it’s amazing, like a theatrical ballad in your ears. From what I’ve gathered you can pickup the full release CD Mirror Mirror from Amazon if you live in the States and are wanting to get your hands on it, which is what I’m going to do. I haven’t found it yet in the iTunes US store, but hopefully it will be there soon. Check it out, what do you guys think? No copyright infringement intended, just spreading the good word.

Sick Day + The O.C.

Last night I was up off and on with a stomach bug, so I stayed home today sick and sleep most of the day away. But all afternoon I’ve been feeling nostalgic and I decided to indulge myself in some extending viewings of The O.C. Remember back in 2003, before the iPhone and Twitter when we had Seth Cohen with his glorious sarcasm plus the witty one liners. It’s sort of surreal how things have changed so much since then, what with the economy being what it is, and the fact I almost forgot about Phantom Planet

I think I included California on every mix CD I made two years after that show debuted. As much as I hate to admit it, that show opened up the the doors to a lot of good bands and music to me. Even now with a lot of the stuff I listen to I can trace some off my roots back to those days in my teens where I would lay awake at night and listen to the songs I heard on the show from guys like Turin Brakes, Joseph Arthur, and of course Death Cab for Cutie. Wow, those were the days indeed.
